This 10 7/8-inch Hodrewa Soldier nutcracker was manufactured at the time when artificial fleece was being substituted for rabbit fur by some makers. It was purchased with a group of other damaged nutcrackers.
This nutcracker had received an impact to the cardboard visor of its shako hat. It was also missing paint in several places. The impact caused the visor to spread and expand in one area. Thinned glue was worked into the area. It was clamped until dry and touched up with paint.
In addition to the cardboard visor, this soldier also carries a cardboard sword. This is usual for HoDreWa nutcrackers of this vintage. It's also a disadvantage when fighting the Mouse King.
